We will begin accepting applications for our FY27 Texas Veterans Commission Grant on Monday, September 14, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. When the online application portal is open, the link to fill out the application will appear on this page.
Please note that we have a monthly limit on the number of grant applications we can accept. Once the maximum number of applications has been received for the month, the grant application portal will close. The portal will reopen on the 1st and 15th of the following month, as application capacity becomes available.
If you are submitting a grant application, please understand that only one funded grant application per eligible beneficiary will be allowed during the FY27 grant period.

What the Fund Does
The NGAT Relief Fund provides temporary, emergency financial assistance to currently serving and former members of the Texas Army National Guard (TXARNG) and Texas Air National Guard (TXANG)—and their eligible dependents and surviving spouses—who can demonstrate financial need. Funded by the Texas Veterans Commission, the program helps cover essential needs at no cost to the beneficiary. Assistance is subject to available funds and must comply with Texas Veterans Commission grant requirements.

Required Documentation
Please reference the application for required documentation for each category. **Note: Required eligibility and supporting documentation must be provided within three business days of submitting your application for your case to be processed. Your case will be closed if your documentation is not received within three business days of submitting your application.
Self-Attestation of Financial Need (Required)
All applicants must demonstrate financial need. Part 5 of the application serves as your signed letter of self-attestation explaining your financial hardship/crises. This section must be completed in your own words and should mention the category/bill that you are asking for assistance with and how getting assistance with it will help you.

Tips for a Faster Decision

Submit a complete application; an incomplete application will delay processing.
- Submit supporting documentation within 3 business days to avoid your application being closed automatically.

Ensure all documents are legible and current (showing your name, service address, amounts due, and due dates). Screenshot of online bills are not acceptable.

If you receive an eviction notice, include it.
State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI)
Group Term Insurance
This is a low-cost group term life insurance policy which provides coverage on the member, their spouse, and their dependent children. Starting at $3.66 a month for $10,000 policy.
Free $10,000 Life Insurance
NGAT is proud to offer you a benefit of a $10,000 life insurance policy. This policy is offered to new enlistees of the Texas National Guard. Enrollment needs to be completed within 90 days of your enlistment to take advantage of this offer.
Free $1,000 Life Insurance
All currently serving members of the Texas Army and Air National Guard are automatically covered with a FREE $1,000 NGAT Life Insurance policy.
Fed Protect
Low cost Group Level Term Life Insurance for current and former members of the Texas National Guard and Texas State Guard between the ages of 18-75 are eligible to apply with coverage continuing through age 121.
