It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of MG (Ret) Lester Simpson who peacefully left this earth today, March 21, 2025 at approximately 5:30 pm.

He has been called to active duty in support of contingency operations overseas four times in his career, including Bosnia and Afghanistan, and earned the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and the Combat Action Badge and during combat operations in Afghanistan 2010-2011.

In 2014, he became the first African American commanding general of the 36th Infantry Division.

Concurrent with his very active National Guard career, Major General Simpson had a 33-year career with United Parcel Service (UPS) where he rose from part-time employee during his college years to Supervisor of Full Time Employees, Plano Delivery Center, Mesquite, Texas and served as Co-Chair of the Plano Center’s Comprehensive Health and Safety Committee. He retired from UPS in March of 2013

He retired from the National Guard in July 2017. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. friends and fellow Soldiers. We will post funeral arrangements once they become available. Rest in peace sir!

I’m had the distinct honor of serving with MG Simpson numerous times over the years. His professionalism and dedication greatly benefited his unit, the Texas Army National Guard and those of us serving with him. Rest in peace, Sir. May your friends and family be comforted by friendship and love you shared over the years.

State Sponsored Life Insurance (SSLI)

Group Term Insurance

This is a low-cost group term life insurance policy which provides coverage on the member, their spouse, and their dependent children. Starting at $3.66 a month for $10,000 policy.

 

Free $10,000 Life Insurance

NGAT is proud to offer you a benefit of a $10,000 life insurance policy. This policy is offered to new enlistees of the Texas National Guard. Enrollment needs to be completed within 90 days of your enlistment to take advantage of this offer.

 

Free $1,000 Life Insurance

All currently serving members of the Texas Army and Air National Guard are automatically covered with a FREE $1,000 NGAT Life Insurance policy.

 

Fed Protect

Low cost Group Level Term Life Insurance for current and former members of the Texas National Guard and Texas State Guard between the ages of 18-75 are eligible to apply with coverage continuing through age 121.
